Motown has a rich history of turning our superstars. It is no wonder that it is still capable of bringing extreme talent to the forefront. In more recent times, the focus has been aimed at emerging rappers. However, there is still a solid r&b/soul sector of Detroit. Enter Choirboi Cartier nurse by day and King of Detroit R&B by evening. Choirboi made waves this past May during nurses’ week, as he became the first African American Nurse to sing the National Anthem during the Pistons game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Breaking down barriers is something that Choirboi is no stranger to, as he was diagnosed with cancer in his young life. After being told that he wouldn’t survive to see 30. Choirboi made the choice that God was not done with him yet. He defied the odds and now offers himself to aid others in their times of need and unrest. Don’t think for a second that his nature doesn’t change once he hits the stage. He creates an escape for his listeners and fan base with his smooth voice and captivating compositions. Currently dominating the Detroit Charts with hits like his award-winning “Ferrari” and his newly released “Privacy,” he is sure to keep being added to lists like Thisis50, the top choice of independent artists to look forward to by Grammy award-winning 50 Cent.
Along with nursing and recording. He is also turning his sights to helping his community even more by offering CPR training courses and gearing up an organization to give back to disenfranchised youth who need representation and positive influences. His newly erected entity Choirboi Productions will be hosting its first event in conjunction with Sirens Media Group. “The Wine & Dine” Friday, June 25th at Club Echelon, accompanied by a Live Band, with special musical guests Gino Tha Pharoah, Apollo Music, and hosted by Myra Symone. It will be a night to showcase Detroit’s male R&B talent and reestablish that Motown swoon.
We are proud to see young gentlemen on the rise to stardom, engulfing themselves in community, entertainment, philanthropy, and entrepreneurship. We thank Choirboi Cartier for his contributions during this challenging time and for finding it in his heart to offer joy through music.
